Product of the Day: New Harken Carbo Pivoting Lead

This week, we will be highlighting some of the new Harken Products that just recently hit the shelves. Today, we're reviewing the new carbo pivoting lead block
Key features:
  • 25% lighter than previous model
  • Replaces metallic version (mounting points match old version)
  • Comes in Carbo-Cam and Cam-Matic versions
  • Available in 2 sizes- 29mm and 40mm
  • Cams can be mounted upside down

All-New Carbo® Pivoting Lead Blocks are up to 25% Lighter

Racers can trim even more weight off their mast and boom with the new Harken Carbo Pivoting Lead Blocks—these high-strength, glass-reinforced composite blocks are up to 25% lighter than the Classic version they replace. With maximum working loads up to 136 kg (300 lb), they're perfect for sheets and halyards on small boats and control lines on larger boats.
"I was psyched to install the new Carbo Pivoting Lead Blocks on my F-18," says product designer Graham Walker. "I use a 40 mm for the spin halyard and two 29s for the cunningham on my rotating mast. I was able to switch out to lighter blocks that have the same working load and same mounting hold pattern, and now I don't have to worry about corrosion between stainless bases and my aluminum mast."
Pivoting Lead Blocks allow free mast rotation while still allowing cleating and control from the cockpit. They're also ideal as boom-mounted mainsheet blocks for converting old systems where the skipper has to reach aft to trim the sheet.
Carbo Pivoting Lead Blocks feature the same hole spacing and rivet size as Classic Pivoting Lead Blocks for easy upgrades. An integrated reversible cam cleat allows you to swap the cleating or uncleating direction—up or down on mastbase configurations and fore or aft on horizontal installations. The high-load ball bearings, sheave, and sideplates are all corrosion proof and UV-stabilized for maximum weather resistance. Carbo Pivoting Lead Blocks are available in 29 mm and 40 mm sizes with aluminum or Carbo Cam® Cleats.

Ronstan Core Blocks now available at Mauri Pro Sailing

Ronstan’s new Core Block Series evolves the concept of the basic sailing block beyond the simple ball bearing design from decades ago. With class-leading performance and contemporary race-inspired styling, Core Blocks now offer sailors an attractive and affordable option appropriate for today’s refined sailboat designs.

The heart of the new Core Blocks is an exclusive 2-stage bearing system housed in durable alloy cheeks. Stage one is an ultra-low friction system for moderate loads, while stage two engages when loads increase for superior high-stress performance.

Core Blocks also complement the looks of any modern sailboat. Block cheeks are shaped with precision from the highest quality alloy to maximize strength, minimize weight and allow for easy maintenance. The unique cheek design reduces rope wear by incorporating a flare at the block throat. Other great features include: removable becket pins for use with pre-spliced sheets, a fully articulating support base for the stand-up models, and a universal head system that can be locked in either of two planes, or left free to swivel.

Core Blocks are ideal for sheet blocks on cruisers or racing cruisers and are also a good choice for high static load applications like halyards and backstays. They are available in two sizes:
Series 60 and Series 75, generally suitable for boats up to 14m (46 feet) depending on the application. Alloy sheave models are available for use with wire cables.

Ronstan is always developing new products to improve the sailor’s performance. This time, Ronstan has launched a new segment of furlers for free flying sails, the new RF45130 Orbit block with soft Dyneema loop becket and cam cleat, a spinnaker pole mast slide (ring type), new colour combinations for the c-cleat to easily code your control lines and a tough mini snap shackle ideal for halyards.
Mauri Pro Sailing Ronstan Sailboat Hardware StoreThe flying sail Ronstan Furlers are the result of an extended development program that have already been seen in action on number of high profile racing boats and have proven themselves to be extremely efficient and reliable.

The Ronstan Spinnaker Pole Slide is the latest addition to the Series 25 T-Track range. It features a sleek, high performance composite construction. The grade 316 stainless steel ring and glass reinforced nylon body are designed for maximum strength.

The ever-popular C-Cleats and accessories have had a facelift with new colour combinations, which Ronstan have introduced recently. Their "classic" C-Cleat with grey cap/grey base, and T-Cleat with red/grey base, will remain in production but the rest of the range has already changed to the new look.

The Ronstan Mini Snap Shackle is the latest addition to the range of fixed bail snap shackle. Stainless steel is used throughout for excellent corrosion resistance. It is only 32mm in length and weights 10g.

Finally, Ronstan recently added the Orbit Block Series 40 BB single with a becket, cleat and swivel head (RF45130) to the popular S40 Orbit Block range. This new block is the same as the existing RF45131 with the only difference being the stainless steel swivel shackle head.
